Whether you are a kid or an adult it's likely that you love watching penguins waddle and swim and interact with each other. Penguins are an iconic reminder of how evolution effectively combines form and function in an ever-changing and diverse family of birds. There are 17 species of penguin which are all threatened largely by rising water temperature, pollution, invasive species (introduced via ships and through the pet trade) which destroy nests and eggs, net pieces discarded by fishing boats, and guano harvesting for fertilizer.
